Decorating With Neutral Decor For Fall

by  Katrina Morris

Today is the first day of fall and the start to the cozy season. Of all the seasons I think it's nature's prettiest. Today is all about decorating with neutral decor for fall. BONUS: These tips will create the foundation for the holiday and winter seasons as well. As a nationally published interior designer and recovering shopper of #ALLTHETHINGS. I want to share the secrets of decorating for multiple seasons using neutral decor. I'm all about pumpkins and seasonal decor BUT we don't need to overdo it. At the end of each season, we have to store what we purchased and that can become a problem very quickly. Just because you have a large storage area doesn't mean you should fill it up. Remember, new decor will become old decor one day. Don't you like buying a few new things each year? Me too! If you want to make bigger changes like lighting I have the perfect post and curated collection HERE to help make your decision less stressful.

Keeping it simple

So now you are wondering, "How do I buy neutral fall decor that will last through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and winter" Change your mindset... instead of ALL things fall think more "COZY"neutral. Focus on the following:

  1. Bring in more texture with pillows and throws

  2. Pick up natural elements such as branches and deeper wood tones

  3. Add layers using trays, candles, pillows, and art.

Keeping these items neutral will allow them to stay around well into the cold winter months. I pick a color for each season and that is what I will use as accent decor. Here in our modern farmhouse home located in Virginia we used copper and I love it so much.

In that living room we had a giant tv. In order to hide it I simply painted the fireplace black and it certainly helped. Decorating with a large vase and branches took some of the attention away from the tv as well.

Decorating For Fall Using Neutral Decor

We now live on the coast in Wilmington, North Carolina and I want to keep some coastal elements displayed with my neutral fall decor.  I love southern charm and mixing that with a modern coastal style is my vibe and will always be trending, here are a few tips on styling your home with a modern coastal vibe all year long while adding fall and cozy seasonal touches.
  1.  Keep your vases out all year long but add seasonal branches or flowers
  2.  Keep your coffee table books light and coastal inspired.
  3.  Decorate with seashells and driftwood just add seasonal candles.
